Here is an article about getting Free Publicity.

Are you getting all the free publicity you want? Call me crazy, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you're not. The good news is, you can change that!

I've said it before, let me say it again: some of the very best advertising you can get is FREE, i.e., you can't buy it. What I'm talking about is "media coverage".
I know, some people think it's almost impossible to get media coverage unless "you know somebody." Nothing could be further from the truth, and here's why.
Radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, tabloids, etc., all need a steady stream of good stories to present to their listeners, viewers, and readers. If all of the interesting, informative, funny stories suddenly dried up, the media would go out of business!
Here's something else you should know, journalists get paid for reporting. Why not help them do their job?
My point is.

Marketing Tip

You can get media coverage when you give media managers the stories they need. So, start asking yourself, "What is there about my business that would interest the local TV news director or newspaper reporter?"

(Remember, no matter how great YOU think your story is, the media contact is looking at it from the perspective of "what's in it for me". So, make sure you position your pitch accordingly.)

What might you pitch? Maybe you're a real success story that other people would want to copy. Maybe you've uncovered a time or money saving tip. Is your business involved in a public controversy or community improvement project? TV loves visually exciting events. Stage an event, send a press release, and make a call to the newsroom!

Your options are many... get creative. And remember, if you make a media person's job easier, you'll get that highly coveted and free coverage.
